excerptProfessor Sir Brian Hoskins, Emeritus Professor of Meteorology at the University of Reading, and Chair of the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London, was co-awarded the Japan Prize in the fields of Resources, Energy, the Environment, and Social Infrastructure. The Prize was awarded at a Ceremony in Tokyo in the presence of the Emperor and Empress of Japan on 16 April 2024. excerptWeather observations commenced at the university in London Road in 1901, and today there are over 100 years unbroken daily records of temperature, rainfall etc. Most of the instruments are fully automatic, and logged by computer every second of every day, 365 days per year.
